“Walk with me in the garden, let me show you the farm” said the Soul Mechanic. I had landed on the Big Island of Hawaii the night before and woke up to the sound of birds and bees on my friend’s organic fruit farm. Every breath of air filled my chest with the smell of ancient flowers of all colours, white and yellow and purple, red and orange and blue. I had come here to find healing after my relationship fell apart into tears. I was finally alone, and finally free for the first time in more than eight years. I had no plan, only to find peace.

The Soul Mechanic grabbed a hose and started watering the plants.

“Flowers love water. Look how beautiful they grow” he said. I picked a plumeria and stuck it to my nose in a deep breath. “Here, water the garden.”

I took the hose and ran my fingers through the water.

“You are very much like a water hose” he said after a while. “Spirit – Love, the power of God – flows through you just as the water runs through this hose. Your mind is your thumb. Look what happens when you put your thumb and partially cover the flow: the pressure increases. The more you block the flow, the greater the pressure. If you cover the hose completely, it will eventually blow up. Love flows through you just like water flows through this hose: it comes from a source beyond you, through you and out into the world.

When you don’t live your truth, when you don’t acknowledge the calling of Spirit and when you think and behave opposite to love – sometimes with the best intentions – you block the flow of Love through you and pressure builds up.

If you do this for years it eventually blows up: rage on the outside or depression on the inside. Your body falls ill. The body by itself doesn’t get sick, the body simply reflects a mind in need of healing.

Just as the water continues to run through the hose when your fingers block the flow, Love continues to flow through you when your mind blocks its expression. All you must do is remove the blocks and express yourself through love as love, because that’s what you are.
