Take a look at your wounded areas. Be daring. Go inside and ask yourself some direct questions.

At some point in our lives, all of us are faced with the decision of whether or not we are going to take off our masks. Have you ever gone through something and found yourself saying, “Wow what was going on with me?” or, “How did I let that happen?” months—or years—later? It’s like the light goes on, and you realize you have been living a lie in some shape or form—and now the truth seems obvious.

Running from something has little to do with a physical action.  Many times we run from our emotional and spiritual lives. I know I have put on my running shoes before without even knowing it. That’s why I think this topic is powerful!  It gives us all a chance to look at our lives to see what it is exactly that we are hiding from.

You may say, “I’m an open book. I live my life with integrity. I’m not hiding from anything!”  That may be true.  But if you take the time to dig deeper, you’ll find some areas that are being ignored, rationalized, or denied.  Hiding makes us feel safe. (At least on the outside.)  The problem with hiding is that the issue can never be transformed. It stays in the dark without having any room to be healed.

So take a look at your wounded areas. Be daring. Go inside and ask yourself some direct questions:

WHERE AM I STILL OPERATING FROM A PLACE OF TOO MUCH PRIDE?

Do you need to let your walls down and be willing to open up? To be more vulnerable and real? What are you protecting?

WHAT AM I RATIONALIZING AS “OK AND ACCEPTABLE” WHEN I KNOW DEEP INSIDE IT’S NOT?

Are you in a job or a relationship that you know is not working, but you keep making excuses in order to keep the peace or stay a little longer out of fear?

WHAT AM I IN DENIAL ABOUT?

Are you repeating the same patterns and getting the same results? Denying there is a real problem?  You’ll know you’re in denial when you feel like you are in the same all-too-familiar situation again.

Remember, hiding doesn’t have to be a bad or a negative thing. Sometimes it serves as the perfect distraction until we are ready to deal with our situation. Regardless of how you choose to deal—or not deal—with an issue, I hope that you will take the time to look more closely at your life.

This is a powerful time of year to explore a little deeper. If you are ready to take the next step in your life, then it’s time to turn on the lights, get out of the dark, and give your life some quality attention. The truth truly will “set you free.” It’s time to be free and lighten up.
