When I gave the vows at my wedding, I spoke not just to my wife but to the eight people who live inside of her.

I have learned to love them all …or else! (;

We all have various people living within us, most of whom merit their own names. For instance, within me there resides:

“Yeah Dave” who likes to hear himself talk, and ask questions just to be heard. “Would you rather date someone with a super hairy neck or someone with this haircut?”

“Daaaaybeeeeed” who is similar to Warren from the movie Something about Mary and tends to get lost in confined spaces.

“Daveed” who is intellectual and loves to read Choose Your Own Adventure stories on fast trains.

“Romer” who enjoys Chimay and late slices from South Brooklyn Pizza.

“Spaz” who chases tornadoes, in his mind. “The sky is falling, the sky is falling!”

“D” who is relaxed, in the flow, my Higher Self. He can make you relax, laugh, and see all that’s good and all that’s right and all that’s delicious!

No matter what you are going through right now, you have awesome, loving, generous, crazy, weird, kind, sensual, radical, incredible aspects of your personality. Sometimes they are hidden and need to be enticed or seduced, but they are there. That is for sure! I say, let them all live, let them all breathe, but do NOT let them all lead.

We need to put our Highest Self into the driver’s seat. @yeahdave (Click to Tweet!)

Emerson said, “Every man is a divinity in disguise, a God playing the fool.”

Are you playing down? Are you letting the insecure fool, the moody biatch, the fear-driven freak run the show? You have within you a universe of life… trillions of cells to whom you are President every single day. Are you the courageous, centered, loving President to your Universe? Or are you the embattled leader fending off a coup?

If you are letting anyone other than your Highest Self be the President of your Life, you are shooting yourself in the foot. No need for that.

Here are 3 tips for empowering your Higher Self  TODAY:

1. Meditate

Richard Davidson found that even just a minute or two a day is a game changer.  I will tell you stories to reel your mind in, as innovative DJ East Forest creates the soundscape. Play a little East Forest now, close your eyes, and take 2 minutes to go within.

Repeat this mantra if your mind starts to tip-toe away:

 With Boldness I Climb

To the Peak of my Mind

2. Appreciate

C’mon, pick up the phone. How much better and Higher you will feel to say the words you never take time to say to the person you never take enough time to love.

I would like to express my gratitude to my friend, my 9th grade English teacher Mrs Crease. She taught me how to write. And she tragically passed away last year. So I cannot call you Mrs Crease, but I just want to say THANK YOU for being a hardass, and a badass. Thank you for giving me a C and smashing my confidence to smithereens. And then showing me how to put it back together again (the right way) and write with conviction and clarity!

3. Luxuriate

Like any King or Leader, your Higher Self does not like to be deprived. Do something really generous for yourself that you would not ordinarily do. It doesn’t have to be fancy or expensive. For instance, everyday I get the veggie burrito from Organic Grille. Every Single Day. But today? I’m treating my Higher Self to one of their chocolate macaroons that I look at often but don’t always go for. F’ing Deeeelicious. Luxuriate in beautiful music, take an extra few minutes to lie in bed before you wake up, go for the $10 foot massage.

If you are depriving yourself of something today, that is not your Higher Self.

Let Your Higher Self be your leader. Meditate. Appreciate. Luxuriate.

The chocolate will flow. The seeds will grow. Your life will glow!
