“Abandon the cultural myth that all female friendships must be bitchy, toxic, or competitive. This myth is like heels and purses — pretty but designed to SLOW women down.” ― Roxane Gay

Do you have active sisterhood in your life? Who is in your female tribe?

Sisterhood is such an important and enriching part of my life. I’ve been fortunate enough to foster it throughout my life. I grew up with three older sisters (my original imprint of how essential sisterhood is to my happiness) and have been friends with my childhood “yayas” for decades. I also have a tribe of women in the world of empowerment who I turn to for advice, comfort and support.

I believe that all women can benefit from the kind of love and friendship that healthy sisterhood can provide. My deep and abiding connection with all of these women has profoundly and positively impacted the person I am today.

I am specifically focusing on female friendships in this episode because this week’s Hello, Freedom guest is Nisha Moodley, a women’s leadership coach and founder of Global Sisterhood Day. Nisha’s work is inspired by the idea that the world will be set free by women who are free, and that sisterhood is the key to that happening. And I must say, I think there’s a lot of truth to that.
