The doctor totally freaked me out.

“Whoa! That’s really, really bad. You could have a stroke”.

What! I’d only gone to check a chest infection was all cleared up.

And now the doctor was telling me my blood pressure was 182 over 105. Way, way out of control. Normally my blood pressure was really low, making it doubly worrying.

Oh heck! Things looked really bleak.

But then it suddenly hit me. Okay, I was in danger of having a stroke at any moment, but now I knew in time to do something about it.

I’ve never been so grateful, ever. What an incredibly lucky break.

To have hit upon a doctor with a few extra minutes to spare. One who went the extra mile and pulled out the blood pressure machine, just because she could.

That was more than all the stars in alignment, all the lucky rabbits’ feet and four-leaf clovers colliding at the same spectacular moment.

Phew! Call it grateful, thankful or hugely appreciative –  I’ve been all of these three just about every ten minutes since that doctor gave me that stroke of immense good fortune.

Am I taking steps to get back to my normal blood pressure?

You bet. But one of those steps might surprise you. It’s a proven prescription no doctor will ever give you.

I’m taking extra doses of…gratitude.

And I don’t need a spoonful of sugar to make the medicine go down. it’s sweet enough as it is.

You won’t find this prescription in most medical books, but it isn’t just wishful thinking –  scientific research has shown that gratitude can have a major physical as well as spiritual benefit.

So come follow Una and Grace, two girls living in the same town, as they both discover the life-changing power of gratitude…
