I think it’s safe to say we are all familiar with the phrase mind-body connection in reference to health. The real question is, what does it really mean and why should we aspire to create it?
The mind-body connection means that our thoughts, beliefs, feelings and attitudes can positively or negatively affect our biological functioning. As a therapist I can also say that the inverse is true. Chronic illness, obesity and addiction, among other conditions, can fuel depression and anxiety.
The health or wellness of your body or mind, can directly impact the health of the other. @terri_cole (Click to Tweet!)
Most of us try to “work out” and “eat well,” with the assumption that if we can consistently do these two things we will be healthy. But this is not necessarily so. We must add the health of the mind to the mix to achieve true holistic health.
Learning to mindfully move your body benefits your brain and your butt! One of my favorite mindful movement experiences is Qoya, created by my pal Rochelle Schieck. And although Qoya is definitely a work out, it also creates the connection between mind and body in a way that feels like a ‘work in’ too. I’m so excited to share my deep dive with Rochelle with you, in today’s episode of Hello, Freedom.
Rochelle teaches women all over the world, to get in touch with their bodies and ultimately themselves through movement. She encourages participants to tap into the wisdom of their bodies, while joyfully moving and intentionally releasing and honoring feelings though the dance.
“I really believe that if you can tap into how it feels to be yourself, you’re more likely to be yourself.” – Rochelle Schieck
Rochelle is a special and interesting soul. I love her energy and her true heart. She makes taking care of your mind and body, accessible and simple. Listen in to hear Rochelle share how and why she started Qoya, tales from her extensive Qoya Retreat travel adventures, and why she’s ok with her life looking a little different than others.
