Actress. Supermodel. Mom. Humanitarian. Businesswoman. These are just a few of the names that describe the kind-hearted, super-achieving beauty that is Molly Sims. You’ve seen her in the magazines, watched her on TV and on the silver screen, and now you get a close-up of her personal side.

Recently, Molly presented the Soaring Spirit Award to Claire Wineland at a Looking Beyond event, which I helped co-found along with a group of dear friends. Following the event, I had the opportunity to interview Molly to really get to know the person behind the face.

What I quickly discovered is that her beauty truly radiates from within.

Angella Nazarian (AN): Of all your personal achievements, what has been your proudest moment?

Molly Sims (MS): Without a doubt, it would have to be my son, Brooks. He empowers me, gives me strength, and he’s fulfilled the part of my life I never knew was missing. He is the icing on the cake!

AN: Can you remember your lowest point? How did you get through it?

MS: I can remember my lowest point, but more importantly, I remember the people that helped me through it. I am so blessed to have my family and friends! They helped me to dig deep and find the strength to move forward. I also did a lot of soul searching and really worked on myself. Looking back, I know why I had to go through what I did, and I’m a stronger person now because of it.

AN: If you had a message to share with everyone, what would it be?

Molly Sims: To simply do right by people. Be good in your actions, and good things will come to you.

AN: Who are the people in your life that won’t let you fail?

MS: My Mom. She always told me, “When one door closes, another door opens.” And she is right. She is the most positive person I know, and I’ve learned so much about life through her eyes.

AN: What is one characteristic that you would say defines you best?

MS: I’m very loyal.

AN: What nourishes you and gives you strength?

MS: I read a passage each morning before I start my day. It helps to put things in perspective for me. And, of course, my family always has my back!

AN: What is your personal motto?

MS: Well, I have a couple: “Go big or go home!” and “Work hard, play hard!”

AN: What is a dream that you would like to achieve in your lifetime?

MS: I think I’m living them right now. I have to say, I wouldn’t want to be anyplace else.

AN: As an active humanitarian, can you share a little bit about the causes you are involved with?

MS: Friends of El Faro is an incredible organization, and I am so proud to be involved. We help improve the lives of over 100 children in Tijuana by feeding them, bathing them, and giving them clothes. Another amazing organization I’m involved in is Baby2Baby. We help thousands of children per year by distributing items like diapers, car seats, and clothes to families with children who cannot afford these basic necessities.

AN: What is the one thing that has impacted you most through the humanitarian work that you do?

MS: Humanitarian work can change someone’s life, but it also can change yours. I have been profoundly changed by the people I’ve met and all the experiences I’ve had with them. I’ve changed for the better, and it has helped me to grow as a person.

AN: Do you find that being a new mom has changed your outlook on life in anyway, and do you have any tips for new working mothers?

MS: Yes! I’ve actually become more aware of my own mortality in a way. I want to be there to provide for him, to help him succeed, and to see him through the good times and the bad times. It became less about me and more about him. I don’t want to miss a moment!

My advice for new moms: Whenever you can, take time out to give attention. And don’t feel guilty! Just do the very best you can do.
